1)      Privacy Policy

The Iyengar Association of Hong Kong (IYAHK) is committed to ensuring that personal data held is handled in accordance with the provisions of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (“PD(P)O”). The IYAHK undertakes to:

collect adequate, but not excessive, personal data by lawful and fair means for a lawful purpose directly related to IYAHK’s functions or activities;

take all practicable steps to ensure that personal data is accurate, having regard to the purpose for which it is or is to be used;

take all practicable steps to ensure that personal data is not used where there are reasonable grounds for believing that it is inaccurate having regard to the purpose for which it is or is to be used;

take all practicable steps to erase personal data where it is no longer required for the purpose for which it was used;

use personal data for the purpose for which the data was to be used at the time of the collection or for a directly related purpose, unless the individual concerned has given prescribed consent for the data to be used for a new purpose or such use is permitted by law;

take all practicable steps to ensure that personal data is protected against unauthorized or accidental access, processing, erasure, loss or use;

take all practicable steps to ensure that a person can be informed of the kinds of personal data the Department holds and the main purposes for which the data is or is to be used; and

handle data access / correction requests in accordance with relevant law.

2)      Purpose for Collection of Personal Data

IYAHK will collect your Personal Data for the following purposes:

for handling your membership application, maintaining and managing your membership account;

for carrying out your instructions, responding to your enquiry or providing service to you;

for performing research or statistical analysis in order to improve our services and for marketing purpose;

for notifying you about new products, special events and newsletter;

for forming part of membership data base necessary for the IYAHK's operation; and/or

for observing any legal, governmental or regulatory requirements of Hong Kong or other relevant jurisdiction including any disclosure or notification requirements to which IYAHK or other class of data recipient are subject.

3)      Personal Data Sharing and Disclosure

You further agree that we may disclose and transfer (whether in Hong Kong or abroad) your Personal Data to third party services providers engaged by us to assist with providing you with our services, including data entry, membership database management, member contact services regarding products and services (and services providers may contact you regarding, ordering, refund or delivery).

When necessary, we may also disclose and transfer (whether in Hong Kong or overseas) your Personal Data to our professional advisers, law enforcement agencies, insurers, government and regulatory and other organizations for purposes specified above.

IYAHK may share aggregated data, provided your identity will not be disclosed by such sharing, with third parties for various purposes (including marketing and advertising), and may use this data in order to better understand your needs and to improve and adapt our products and services.

4)      Confidentiality & Security

When you provide your personal information to us, only authorized IYAHK staff have access right to retrieve this information for carrying out their job duties and they must comply with a set of strict guidelines on how to use these Personal Data. IYAHK use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to encrypt your personal information before it is transmitted to us. In a bid to protect members' data, all credit card authentication and payment authorization are handled directly by relevant banks. IYAHK will have no record of such data. Always remember to sign out of your account and close your browser window upon the end of each transaction. Since no system is impenetrable and no information provided over the Internet is completely secure, therefore IYAHK cannot guarantee the security of any information that you transmit to us or receive from us over the Internet.

5)      Amendment to this Statement

IYAHK may amend this Statement from time to time. If we make any substantial amendments in the way we use your Personal Data, IYAHK will notify you by posting a prominent announcement on the membership website. You agree that such posting will constitute sufficient and adequate notice. You agree that your continued use of IYAHK services after such amendment will constitute your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by the modified Statement.
